Steve Jobs feeling good about himself

Posted by John Landerholm in softwareMicrosoftApple

Steve Jobs feeling good about himself, he just put down Microsoft in publicJust saw a video of Walt Mossberg interviewing Steve Jobs. When asked how many copies of iTunes Apple has distributed he coyly hinted that it was at least 3 x the amount of iPods they have sold. That means at least 300 million copies.

Mossberg, the shrewd analyst he is, sayed quickly that 300 million copies would make Apple one of the major software developers for the Windows platform.

Jobs in response told him that Apple had recieved cards and letters from Windows users saying that it was the best software they owned.

Just wait, it gets better.

Steve-O, now on a roll says it was like "giving a glass of ice water to someone in hell."  Wow! He even said the H word.

Lets just put this into perspective. iTunes sucks. Period. Its rips CD's at a glacial tempo, it's ugly and it doesn't keep track of didly squat. Sure, you can make a playlist. How last century is that?

iTunes is an interface to the iTunes store and in as such this "feature" is pushed into your face everywhere in the program.

To think that this was anyones favorite program is ludecris. There are several programs that run on Windows that are superior to iTunes. My favorite is MusicMatch Jukebox. It is everything that I could want in a musicplayer.

The only reason that iTunes has been downloaded 300.000.000 times is because it is bundled with QuickTime. You simply can't download QuickTime without having to download iTunes also. How cheezy is that?

QuickTime is a great player and the Pro edition is worth every penny of the 20$ it costs. Its functional and does what you ask of it without getting in your face. Good stuff.

The problem is that Apple insists on bundling the two products together. I seem to remember that Microsoft is getting fined to the tune of billions of dollars by the EU for bundling Windows media player with Windows. How silly can any of this get? Users being saved by big brother from evil software developers who attempt to give software away!!!

The absolute worst thing about iTunes and because of the bundling of QuickTime Apple is the spam Apple sends promoting the iTunes store.

Apple must be one of the biggest spammers on this Earth. I have blocked them on my spam filter several times for sending newsletters trying to sell me products from the  iTunes store only to get more Apple spam a month later. I haven't upgraded my QuickTime for some time as I can't bear the thought of installing and immediatly uninstalling  iTunes just so I can upgrade my QuickTime. And I own my copy of QuickTime Pro!!!

I'm not the only one getting spammed. I know lots of people who like me have never opted for a newletter from Apple but still get Apple spam all the time.

How is it that Apple can get away with bundling, spamming and creating crap software and then tell the world that its like giving a glass of ice water to someone in hell?

That is some gall!!

Somebody, anybody send me a link to an unbundled version of QuickTime. Please!
